October is a time of transition: while many flowers are still blooming, painting our gardens in the same jewel, rusty and burning tones of the transforming leaves higher up on the tree branches, we also start truly noticing those sculptural elements that will be the stars of the Winter landscape. The towering teasels, the dark docks, the curving thin punctuated stems of cephalaria gigantea, the sinuous, golden dotted lines of leonourus sibiricus…
,We brought this moment to life at the ICA, focusing on all of those elements casting dramatic shadows and drawing intricate, ornate outlines against the Autumn skies. Playing with the balance between sparse and lush, between line and colour field (between presence and absence if you will) the mantlepiece installation and floral table centrepieces were as much about the flowers as the negative space all around and between them.
